Windows 11 Can't Find Updates: How to Fix It
What to do when Windows Update keeps searching for updates without finding any.
You press "Check for updates" and Windows says you are up to date, even though you suspect you are not — or the search just keeps loading and never finishes. This is different from an error during installation; here the problem is that it doesn't even find anything.
The check almost no one does first: date and time
Tip: if the system date or time is wrong (even by a few minutes), Windows Update can fail to verify the validity of available updates. Settings → Time & language → confirm "Set time automatically" is turned on.
Is your account managed by work or school?
If your personal PC shows up linked to a "Work or school access" account, policies from that organisation may be controlling when and which updates you receive — not a fault in your machine. Check Settings → Accounts → "Access work or school" to see if there is a connection you don't recognise or no longer need.
Restart for real, not just the Settings app
If the Settings app gets stuck in a strange state (buttons that don't respond, sections that don't load), a full restart of the machine — not just closing and reopening Settings — usually fixes it.
