1. Pick a template (or start blank)

File → New → choose a pre-designed template, or "Blank Presentation" if you prefer full control from the start.

  1. Title slide — presentation name, your name, date.
  2. Table of contents or agenda (for long presentations).
  3. Main content, split into clear sections.
  4. Conclusion or final summary.

A rule of thumb that helps a lot: one main idea per slide, not several stacked together — if you need to explain three separate points, use three slides, not a single one crammed with text.

Adding content

  • Text: click the template's placeholders, or Insert → Text Box for free positioning.
  • Images: Insert → Pictures.
  • Charts: Insert → Chart, for visual numeric data.

Tip: less text and more visual elements usually communicates better than text-saturated slides — the presentation supports what you say; it should not replace you by being read word for word.

Rehearse with Presenter View

F5 (or "Play from Start") launches the full presentation mode — Presenter View (with two screens) shows you private notes while the audience sees only the slide.

Frequently asked questions

How many ideas should go on each slide?

Ideally one main idea per slide — if you need to explain several separate points, splitting them across slides beats cramming a single one with too much content.

What is Presenter View?

With two screens connected, it shows your private notes on your own display while the audience sees only the clean slide — useful so you don't have to memorise everything.
