How to Connect Your PC to a TV
An HDMI cable and Windows + P cover the reliable route; wireless casting covers the convenient one — plus the duplicate-vs-extend choice and the audio setting that catches everyone out.
With a cable (simplest and most reliable)
- Connect an HDMI cable between your PC and the TV.
- On the TV, select the corresponding HDMI input with the remote.
- In Windows:
Windows + P→ choose "Duplicate" or "Extend" depending on what you need.
Without cables (wireless casting)
If your TV is a smart TV with Miracast or similar support: search for "Project" in Windows (or open the action centre) → select your TV from the list of available devices.
Cable vs wireless: the cable always delivers better quality with no delay (latency); wireless is more convenient but can introduce some lag, especially noticeable if you plan to game on the big screen.
Duplicate vs Extend
Duplicate shows the same thing on both screens — useful for presentations. Extend treats the TV as an additional, independent display — useful for extra workspace.
Tip: if the audio does not come out of the TV automatically, check under Settings → Sound that the audio output device is set to the TV, not to the PC's own speakers.
