What Is the Group Policy Editor on Windows
Available only on Pro, Education and Enterprise, for advanced system settings.
The Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) lets you configure advanced system settings in a centralised way — originally designed for business network administrators, but also accessible on individual Pro machines.
Only available on Windows Pro, Education or Enterprise — Windows Home doesn't include this tool.
How to open it
Windows + R → gpedit.msc → Enter.
What it's used for on a personal PC
Some settings with no equivalent in the normal Settings menu are here — for example, certain more detailed controls over Windows Update, or specific security restrictions for several user accounts.
Warning: changes here can affect every account on the machine, not just yours. Only modify policies you understand well, and look for specific instructions for what you need instead of changing settings at random.
